About Indian GI
Indian GI was an initiative of legal professionals and academicians specializing in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and World Trade Organization (WTO) related issues. The organization has resolved to work for the community development through protection, promotion and enforcement of IPR in general and GI in particular. Its work is focused towards the most neglected community i.e. Farmers through GI registrations in India as well as abroad.
The work of President Prof. Ganesh S. Hingmire in this in India has received a National Intellectual Property Award given by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. He was presented the IPR Special Mention National Award (2015) and “Best Facilitation of Registration of Geographical Indications and Promotion of Registered GI in India” at the hands of Honorable Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. And, now with this strong base in GI field, the primary purpose at Indian Geographical Indication (Indian GI) is to provide a platform for buyers to buy original and genuine GI products from Maharashtra.
Prof. Ganesh Hingmire
Prof. Ganesh completed his LL.M. from UK after completing LL.B. from renowned ILS Law College, Pune after his Science degree in Chemistry. He has also completed M.Phil (Economics) from University of Pune with a record of 91% grade point. He has completed several Professional Trainings viz. Japan Patent Office, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and NISCAIR. He constantly supported various industries for their IPR registration and commercialization from 2002 till date.
He is an ardent reader and passionate writer with more than 70 published articles and numerous news articles in all majorly circulated news papers of Maharashtra and India. He has also authored two books on Economics and Intellectual Property Rights. In the year 2014, the Indian GI Registry received 36 applications out of which Prof. Ganesh had worked upon 23 Applications with the support from World Bank Project and Department of Horticulture, Gov. of Maharashtra. It is because of his genuine efforts and relentless hardwork, Maharashtra is top in the list of Agricultural GIs in India.
